Savory Tofu + Tempe Plant-Based Protein Bowls

When I wake up craving something savory, deeply nourishing, and satisfying enough to carry me through the morning—this is where I land. These tofu tempe bowls have become one of my everyday essentials. They’re simple, protein-rich, and endlessly adaptable depending on what’s in the fridge or what my body is asking for.

There’s something about building a bowl like this that feels intuitive, a little bit ritual, a little bit creativity and easy! Fresh herbs, something fermented, something creamy (cashew or coconut yogurt), something with heat. It’s not about perfection—it’s about balance. The kind of breakfast (or brunch) that actually sustains you.

Why I Love This Bowl

  • High in plant-based protein
  • Gut-friendly (thanks to fermented additions like kimchi)
  • Quick and oil-free
  • Grounding, savory, and satisfying

Everyday Tofu Tempe Bowl (1 Serving)
by Sarah Farsh, March 2026

  • 3 slices tempeh (choose a simple, bean-only tempeh—locally made if possible)
  • ~1/4 cup firm tofu, crumbled by hand
  • 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh herbs, chopped (basil, dill, cilantro—your choice)
  • Coconut yogurt, kimchi and avocado to top as desired
  • Favorite hot sauce
  • Salt, pepper, onion powder to taste

Prepare the tofu scramble: in a pan over medium heat, add crumbled tofu with a small splash of water (no oil) to lightly warm and sautĂ©. Add salt, pepper and onion powder to taste. Add chopped spinach and sautĂ© until wilted slightly but still green. Warm strips of tempeh on a pan, lightly heat tempeh slices in a pan (or enjoy as is, depending on preference). Build your bowl: Start with a base of scrambled tofu, add coconut cream to top, add kimchi, sliced avocado. Add tempeh slices and enjoy with a generous drizzle of hot sauce. Notes: This bowl is less about exact measurements and more about how you feel that day. Sometimes I add more greens. Sometimes extra heat. Sometimes more herbs than anything else. It’s a build-as-you-go kind of meal—simple, nourishing, and always satisfying.
